Following the declaration of a 15-day emergency closure at Dhaka University (DU) due to recent earthquakes, confusion arose regarding the status of the upcoming 2025-26 undergraduate admission tests for the IBA, Business Studies, and Fine Arts units.
However, the university administration has moved to clear up this uncertainty, confirming that the three unit admission tests will take place according to their pre-determined schedule.
The emergency Syndicate meeting held on Saturday (November 22) suspended all academic activities and university examinations from November 23 to December 6 to facilitate the inspection and renovation of abandoned and high-risk residential halls following the earthquake-related hazards.
Admission Test Schedule Unchanged: According to the schedule set during the DU Admission Committee meeting on October 13, the tests are slated as follows:
- IBA Unit Admission Test: November 28 (Friday)
- Fine Arts Unit Test (General Knowledge & Drawing): November 29
- Business Studies Unit Admission Test: December 6
Authority Clarifies Decision
When asked whether the admission tests would be postponed, Dr. Muhammad Osman Imam, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies, confirmed to Campus Alo:
“Only the university’s internal classes and examinations have been postponed. Residential students have been instructed to vacate the halls. There has been no change in the decision regarding the admission tests.”
He further explained the reasoning: “Since the exams will be held in various divisional cities and the number of candidates in these units is relatively low, it would not be appropriate to change the schedule. The administration has not made any decision to postpone the entrance examinations. Therefore, the admission tests will be held on time.”
Professor Dr. Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, echoed this confirmation: “The meeting did not include any decision to postpone the admission tests. The closure was solely announced to allow for the inspection of the university halls. The admission tests will proceed according to the scheduled dates.”
